Mental Focus:  Being Principle-centered

Author Stephen Covey argues that, in a world that changes quickly, constantly, and unpredictably, having a well defined “road map” in life is less useful than having a “compass” that guides us towards our most deeply held and unwavering principles, no matter the situation.  In Tae Kwon Do, we have such a set of principles – the Five Aims to Achieve and the Theory of Power – towards which we are guided in training, no matter if we encounter injury, absence, or other detours from the training “map” we may have originally imagined.  As the academic year quickly approaches, think about what set of principles may guide you similarly in your personal life as circumstances change, often unexpectedly.
